Ravan encourage Ram on the sets of ‘Ravana’

Even though the shooting of Mani Ratnam’s ‘Ravana’ is almost complete and its postproduction work is in full progress, this whole episode is an unforgettable incident - something which the cast and crew will remember for a long time.

Bollywood star Abhishek Bachchan showed exemplary courage as he came forward to help co-star Vikram, who was feeling dizzy while shooting a spine-chilling scene at a 2000 feet high cliff. In Mani Ratnam’s ‘Raavana’, Abhishek Bachchan plays Raavana and South superstar Vikram plays Ram.

“There was a vital sequence in which Vikram had to climb down a 2000 feet high cliff. Action director Sham Kaushal had taken all necessary precautions to make sure there was minimal risk involved for the actors but he didn’t know Vikram had a vertigo problem. Being a thorough professional, Vikram did not outright refuse to do the shot, but his anxiety while doing the rehearsals was sensed by co-star Abhishek Bachchan, with whom he shares a great working relationship.”

Incidentally, it was Abhishek who stepped up by volunteering to do the risky stunt himself as, “Despite not being required for the shot, Abhishek began climbing down the mountain and asked Vikram to follow suit. All the while, Abhishek, who was not in the frame, showed by example how the shot should be done. Vikram, who was feeling much more relaxed about the whole thing, gave a perfect shot,” added the source.

Vidya Balan great performances

There is something very consistent about Vidya Balan - she consistently gives great performances onscreen and she consistently tops the 'worst dressed celebrity list' off screen. We really can't figure that out.

We can't fathom why she either wants to dress like she's the main attraction at the circus or as if she were trying to get an early admission into an old age home! Perhaps she's figured that, instead of competing with the sexy Priyanka or the svelte Katrina for newsprint space, she'd just make news by doing the opposite - looking positively ghastly every opportunity she gets! Here's looking at a few of Vidya's most memorable hits and misses.

At the IMC Women Entrepreneurs' exhibition, Vidya turned up in a yellow horror. Ok, so maybe the colour suited her, but we could have done without the green and the orange. As for the flower motif at the hem, my little cousin would have seen it was a fashion disaster a mile away.

The folks at Marie Claire tried their best to get Vidya Balan in touch with her ethnic beauty. But when the actress came to launch the issue (featuring her on the cover), they must have shuddered at how she had caught the wrong end of the stick.
We guess there's some Mughal influence in there somewhere, but we can't put a finger on it. And as if the confusion of embroidery, zari, frills and colours were not enough, the outfit even has a few panels of black and white checks.

Our verdict: we can think of forgiving the creator - citing excess of inspiration - but we can't forgive Vidya for actually picking it off a rack somewhere.
